I am sitting at work at ABC15 where I work as a studio slave and I am watching football. The next show isn't until ten, so I may as well update my blog while I am here.
I do enjoy watching College football, BYU got rocked by Florida State today which was sad, it was BYU's first home field loss in something like 6 years. I am currently watching the Texas/Texas Tech game. Not as close as I had hoped it would be, but it still could be anyone's game. And the ASU game is on FSArizona. The thing about ASU's non-conference schedule is that the teams they play are sorry, pathetic excuses of school football teams. It's frustrating. At least the Pussycats of UA got whipped by Iowa today.
Anyway, onto blog content. I spent a large amount of time yesterday compiling a list of radio stations in Los Angeles. I included their call letters, address, and (if listed) any job openings that I qualify or might qualify for.
I had asked my cousin who spends a lot of time in Santa Monica if he knew any radio stations in the area that I could look at, but he wasn't much help. I ended up looking at ontheradio.net. This is a very helpful site for anyone looking for work or looking to advertise on the radio. It also might be used to find radio stations when in an unfamiliar place I suppose. I searched for stations in Los Angeles and it populated a list of every FCC licensed station in Southern California. Fortunately it also lists the city the station is licensed to operate in and I won't be sending any resumes to Ontario or Beaumont. The apartment I will be living in is in Agoura Hills (about 20 min inland from Malibu).
Anyway, I found this site to be helpful, but it could stand to be updated. Some of the stations it listed are no longer operational, or they changed formats, some of them even led to the website of a station with different call letters. But all-in-all I am satisfied with the list I made. I will better be able to procure work this way.
Some of the websites I looked at listed positions for videographers! At a radio station!! Turns out they don't just take photos at remote events, they tape it and post the video to the website. I talked with one of my old superiors at Clear Channel last night about this and he said, "Yeah, it's cuz it's Los Angeles. They have them in New York too." I was blown away! I am trying to get a promotions position, and now I'm thinking perhaps I could use my finalcut skills from school to move on up into one of these video positions! How cool would that be?! I wouldn't have to operate within a TV deadline either because it's all for the website. And content for a radio station website tends to get done whenever it gets done. That would be so much fun I think! Of course I still would rather be the promotions manager, but if videographer gets me to a full-time job quicker then I will be glad to divert into that.
But now, I must get back to football, Texas Tech is down by 10 with 1:27 left in the game. I really want Texas to lose, but I don't think they will.
UPDATE: Texas won. :(
